WHY YOU NEED TO PRE-BOOK CHRISTMAS:
A conversation with Drew Weisinger, industry-veteran.
As a retailer, it’s incredibly important to pre-book: this puts you first in line for the “what’s new” shipment. It’s always important to be the leader of new in your area.
"You should order now since the holiday season is still fresh in your mind," said Drew Weisinger, VP of The Northern Link. "The longer you wait to order, the more likely you are to forget what sold."
Manufacturers base much of their production quantities on their pre-book amounts. Pre-booking helps manufacturers understand what products you like and assures that you will have inventory to buy through the season.
"The shipping crisis will still be challenging this year," Weisinger said. "Order now if you want to guarantee product delivery. Otherwise, things may be difficult down the line."
Inventory may not always be available if you wait! As mentioned above, if you wait, you’ll only have excess or closeout inventory to choose from. It’s important to have new items in your store for seasonal and timely events.
In terms of marketing for the holiday season, "it is essential to keep your customers in-the loop," Weisinger said. As soon as products are in stock, let your customers know! Ideas for selling all-things-holiday include holding open houses, contests, promotions, and creating displays that captivate customers' attention.
